Why Jonathan Must Return To Otuoke In 2015

I have been around for close to thirty years and except probably during the Civil war, and according to history that I have read and stories I heard, I do not think Nigeria has ever had it this bad, coming from an incurable optimist that I am, this is in fact depressing, Bomb blasts that used to sound so foreign to us as something that only happens in Iraq, Afghanistan has now become almost a daily occurrence so much so, our dailies do not even consider worthy to be their screaming headlines anymore, Corrupt Persons have become bolder in their debauchery that it seems there is a silent competition to see who or what organisation can loot and plunder the most, security agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting Nigerians appear to have become an armed political wing of the Ruling Party, Nigeria has become akin to a ship sailing directionless with a drunken Captain, rudderless and in a fiery storm. How there are ordinary Nigerians that support this administration beats me hollow, apart from Career Politicians, those that can be seen as government contractors, those that have benefitted and continue to get their daily bread from this administration, Big businessmen that policies of the government favour their businesses, on the other hand we have those who support this administration just because Mr President is their own, from the Niger Delta area that has long suffered government neglect, never mind the fact that, that the lives of the people hasn’t improved in any significant way, poverty is still rife, except some ex militants that have now become Multi Billionaires due to government patronage, environmental degradation hasn’t ceased either and so to them , it is a good thing that their son is President and he must complete his term, this is just one of the mind-set of our people who to me are a big part of the problems bedevilling this country, all sorts of the ridiculous excuses are bandied about on why the President is not performing but that those against him are making him look bad, then they point to his achievement in revitalizing the railways, rebasing the economy and that we are Africa’s largest economy and refer to the figures the likes of Mrs Okonjo - Iweala dishes out almost on a weekly basis about how millions of jobs has been created and millions more to be created due to some phantom government policies …These lies are so bold and in your face so much one begins to wonder if these government officials actually live in this same Nigeria or an alternate one, because the reality on ground is a stark contrast to the picture they have become really good artist at. To be fair to Mr Jonathan, the problems of this country precedes his Presidency, but the question is what has he done to stem the tides of maladministration, and has he done his best, maybe but it is obvious his best is not just good enough, He does not possess the capabilities to govern a complex country like Nigeria, he has shown over and over again that he has not the clout, political sagacity and maturity to deal with diverse interests, and issues a president of a country like Nigeria needs to do well with the lives of 170 million people, he with his style of leadership has further widened the divide of Nigerians along ethno religious lines more than any other leader in the history of this nation, missing funds, missing ships laden with oil, missing planes are some of the absurdities that has now become commonplace. The insurgency in the north is getting worse, part of the country are already being annexed by terrorists, insecurity in other parts of the country is not in any way abating, the Presidency has put the blame on every other imaginable entity but itself, at one time, it was the opposition party at one point, at another time, it was some northern oligarchs unhappy that president is from the south, then to the more absurd of somehow blaming foreign powers, like the non-cooperation of the Chadian government or the US refusing to sell arms to Nigeria, excuses no matter how ridiculous never seem to cease from the likes of Okupe and Mr Abati. if as the president, all you can do is to offer excuses on why we are in such a sorry state, the honourable thing to do would be to resign, but then again this is Nigeria, nobody does that, after all Mr Abba Morro is still minister of interior, months after conducting a sham, scamming thousands of unemployed graduates in a recruitment exercise where dozens lost their lives!
What his supporters would not highlight is how down right insulting it is that a Presidency that has told us now that we would have to tighten our belts due to falling oil prices continue to maintain a pricey number of ten Jets in its Presidential Fleet, for comparison, The USA has just two, Russia has three and the UK government has non, The Queen and Prime minister routinely charters British Airways on their travels, The Petroleum Minister, Mrs Allison - Maduekwe chartered two private jets for her travels and spent 10 billion naira doing so, she is still in her post, A civil servant embezzled billions of Pensioners funds, nothing has been heard on that case and I am not holding my breath, Like Mr Amaechi of Rivers said recently. President Jonathan supervises a corrupt government, under this administration, the fight against corruption has gone to sleep, in his (President Jonathan) own words, corruption does not deserve all the energy we exert on it, after all stealing is not corruption…surely, only the enemies of the Nigerian people would want this incompetent and morally bankrupt administration to continue for another four years, His disdain for the rule of law and constituted authorities is akin to what one would expect from a junta, is it his war against the media, seizing newspaper on some silly premise of looking for explosives used by terrorist, or the turning on its head simple mathematics, where 16 is greater than 19, 7 is greater than 19 and all sort of illegalities that has the imprint of the presidency written all over it, he condones because of his silence and tactic approval of all sort of shenanigans under his administration, and now that he has recruited an obviously biased Inspector General in person of a certain Mr Abba, we can only hope that we do not fall over the edge that we are dangling dangerously at , Mr Abba is already showing on whose side he is, not minding that he serves (or is supposed to) the Nigerian People and not the President. He has labelled opposition lawmakers and governors as thugs, he has made himself the prosecutor and Judge in the case of the status of the speaker, house of representatives and to make sure he earns his pay check judiciously, he has denigrated the hallowed chambers, a symbol of the sovereignty of the Nigerian people by invading in some archaic commando style the national assembly and preventing law makers from legislating on an issue brought to them by the by the president, Surely some major actors in Nigeria political scene should be subjected to some sort of Psychiatric evaluation…All these and many more could not have occurred without the knowledge of Mr Jonathan, except of course he is not in charge and admitting that would not shock anyone. Even though there are stories about impeachment proceedings against him which has been long overdue in my opinion, impeaching him at this time may lead to further crisis considering our albatross of ethnic and religious sentiments, I would prefer we just let him finish up his term and reject in its entirety, the PDP and whatever it had stood for in the past 16 years of our democracy come February 2015, so that Nigeria may know peace, development and Prosperity, surely we can manage till then, we have been at it for a longer time.
In Conclusion, I would like to quote this text from a Punch contributor on their online forum that summarises how President Jonathan has lost a lot of goodwill he enjoyed prior to the 2011 elections.
“In 2011, I voted for GEJ, because he is a good man, and his grass to grace story was an inspiration to me. But with him, I've realised that good and humble men, don't always make good leaders.
Sir, under six years of your leadership, I've witnessed a steady rise in insecurity, and impunity. Your public defence of corruption, on national TV remains a 'presidential disgrace'. Religion and ethnic diversity which used to be a source of national pride and unity has suddenly become divisive tool, which your party and administration have continued to rely on for political expediency. Petrol pump price rose to 141 naira, and it took our struggle (and some deaths) to become N97. The naira continues to decline against the dollar, Okada/Keke driving is the nearest thing to employment for our numerous graduates. Yes, you “built” new universities but with the old universities requiring several months of ASUU strike to get the desired attention, besides what's the essence of churning out several more jobless graduates? Ex-militants like Dokubo, have suddenly become presidential defenders, threatening fire & brimstone, at every perceived provocation. All our public institutions are in complete state of comatose - EFCC, ICPC, NAFDAC! This country has never had it so bad, up until now!”
Mr Jonathan may in fact be a good man, or at worst a really simple man trying his best to put things right in the best way he can, but almost six years of his presidency has shown that he is just not capable to govern this country, I dare say that he is not fit to spend a day more after May 29 2015 in the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, because as President, He is a Failure. and to borrow Uncle Tunde Fagbenle closing remarks, this is saying it as it is.

What Irks You About Your Own Tribe ?

...At the risk of this thread becoming a tribe bashing one, lets just share some thoughts on this...i am proudly yoruba ( awa ti aromi sa legbe legbe) but there are some aspects of the yoruba community that i consider kind of annoying ..first up 

1.Greetings my people - we sabi greet too much ( including over familiarity), maybe its because i can be extremely private sometimes ( actually most times) but my people can greet on any occasion, its like there is a greeting for every possible occasion, sometimes when i'm lost in my own thoughts and i don't reply cause i didn't hear their greetings, you are labelled pompous and all sorts, You would agree that it is all to become friends and some of just are just fine with the few friends we have, we don't need more..

2.Loud and proud - Kai, yorubas are loud , its like there is a silent competition to see who can speak loudest into the phone (this one especially)... in the streets, banking halls and even offices...thankfully, i don't know of any in the bedroom  but i must admit, this can also apply to other Nigerians so maybe this is not exclusively ours. 

3. Respect is not always reciprocal - how can being respectful be a bad thing, well when it allows people to get away with all sorts of rubbish.. in Yorubaland, respect especially for anyone older than you is almost like sacrilege if not adhered to, but here is the annoying part, respect is earned and not demanded, this is why some folks would just do and undo and be at fault and still expect you to respect them and even apologies on top the matter, just because they were fortunate to enter this world before you, to this i say ...Hian, yoruba parents are so guilty of this. Never expect an apology from your typical yoruba father especially...forget am e no go happen, patapata na inform of bribe..)

4 Parties - Owannbe for real, the final trumpet may be mistaken as an invite to a last minute party by some of my wonderful yoruba folks, i enjoy parties but not every little thing deserves aso ebi, tent, jolorun aka jollof rice and the rest. a friend once commented that he hardly meets my mum at home on any given saturday nough said !!!

Its Time To Correct This Misconception,all cars are assembled after all.

...After the Made/assembled in Nigeria Cars, unveiled by the Stallion group with the President in attendance, i have been dismayed with the brash and uninformed comments all over social media by some of us in identifying and trying to distinguish that those vehicles are assembled in Nigeria and not made in Nigeria, Actually there is little or no difference in both analogies...All Cars are made and assembled ...#GBAM...let me explain...No single Manufacturer in the World makes a whole automobile in a single country, the most is that probably 90 % of the vehicle can be sourced in a country and very few manufacturers even get to that percentage, quick example...A Rolls Royce that is famed for hand-building their vehicles also at their factory in England actually source for the aluminium panel from Germany (think BMW) and a lot of their electronics are shared with their BMW parent company, KIA/Hyundai have factories in the USA now...but a lot of the parts used in making this vehicles in the USA still come from their native Korea...Toyota builds all their Lexus models in Japan but have to get some parts like engine block, etc from mainland Europe and America.....The Point i am making here is that cars get their parts and constituents from different countries, In Fact most of the Largest factories of Automobile manufacturing just have Engine building departments,Body Place ( which would include welding, paneling and Painting), Upholstery, and Chassis marrying under one roof but you would agree with me that at this point the "car" is still just a piece of metal, every other part to make the car complete probably came from outside the state, country or continent....Admittedly though, i doubt the Nissan cars had up to 5 % of its make up sourced in Nigeria because we do not have the supporting industries in Place...Finally,in modern automobile practice,there is little or no difference between Made or Assembled...they are all assembled after all.

Top Ten desirable areas to live in lagos

Hello ....my blog has really come of age (for my mind)....it used to be www.makizee-thoughtsaloud.blogspot.com, a mouthful right? That would make it so difficult to find in a sea of blogs in here, so I changed it to www.makizee.blogspot.com....that should be easier, don't you all think, well to the business of the day

The dream of the average person living in Lagos is to one day own a house in Lagos but there is Lagos and there is "Lagos", for example there are parts of Lagos i would not even consider owning property at, the wahala is not even worth it abeg so as a realtor and real estate enthusiast, I carried out a serious research (indeed) and i came up with a list of the 10 most desirable locations to own a house, provided money wasn't a constraint, taking into considerations that there are gated communities (estates) everywhere in Lagos where it would seem like you are balling in Monaco even but I’ll try not to include these estates like NICON Town, Carlton gate, you get my point.

.....so here is my list based on parameters like traffic patterns, general security situation, nearness to CBD's, Airport and the likes

10. Yaba/Akoka and environs: Yaba area of Lagos is a mix of commercial & residential properties and it is easily accessible from most part of the state, some really nice estates are also springing up around there plus it hosts quite a number of institutions, there are lot of bars, clubs and hotels for those that like a bit of living pleasure, and e-centre is always a good place to hangout at.

9. Surulere and Environs: Yezzir, good old surulere…..well it may not be revered as it was decades ago but surulere is still a nice place to work and live, not forgetting the numerous malls springing up, the redeveloped Adeniran Ogunsanya mall comes to mind

Apapa GRA and environs: i know when you hear of apapa, what readily comes to mind are container laden trailers and terrible traffic caused by the trucks entering and exiting the ports nearby but apapa still commands one of the highest prices on properties, both commercial and residential, a lot of "old money" resides there and foreigners too, in fact Apapa in the past used to be known for its expatriates status, surely it isn't what it used to be but Apapa "head still dey there"

7. Ajah/Lekki 2 and environs: Ajah has really come a long in terms of development and its proximity to the business hotbed of VI and Lagos Island has had a positive effect on its development plus the addition of posh estates around the place is also a good thing but there are dots of shanties also, not to mention the never ending traffic…..”gosh, if only I could afford Lekki Phase 1”, you might find yourself thinking as you drive home on a stressful Monday evening.

6. Oniru Estate/ Lekki 1: Very few places in the continent of Africa has attracted as much real estate development  as these axis (of the rich) but a major downside for me is that this place like many nice places in Lagos is overpriced, the prices of properties are artificial, I just hope the bubble does not burst soon, that would be bad market for me.

5. Victoria island : VI has become the preferred location for big business to site their corporate headquarters displacing Lagos Island from this position, everybody want to have an office here, which some residents depending on who you talk to may find it pleasing or really as a nuisance, while some landlord are happy, smiling to the bank by leasing out their house to companies, others may not be fond of their next door neighbor who might just be a bank, anyhow VI is still a good place to live and own a property at.

4.Magodo GRA/ Omole Estates: if you are looking for a serene place to live where there is very little traffic except when a neighbor is having a party and very much residential with less commercial activity, the Magodo GRA Phase 2 (shangisha) is your best bet, located just on the other side of Alausa secretariat..With the nearby Omole Estate 1& 2, MKO Abiola Gardens, these places have come to define a visitor’s first impression of Lagos as they enter through the Lagos Ibadan Expressway

3.Ikeja GRA and Environs : Ikeja GRA is beautiful, it is by far the most popular GRA in the city and its location  plus nearness to the Ikeja CBD and other nice areas like Maryland, Opebi Allen, ilupeju and the busiest Airport in the country MMIA, not forgetting the seat of power , Alausa makes ikeja GRA a prime location to build that dream home.

2. Ikoyi : From being the colonial quarters of yore to the present day, ikoyi has always worn the tag of where the nouve riche live, after so many of its original swampy lands have been sandfilled and developed into prime lands more than doubling its size, ikoyi continues to attract the elites that want exclusivity. Estates like Northern Foreshore and Parkview are some of the gated estates in ikoyi…..if you are looking to get a slice of ikoyi, you have to pay the price (literally).

1.Banana Island: First of all (go down low, couldn’t resist…ha ha ha ), I am not a fan of banana island for the simple fact that it is the most grossly overpriced piece of real estate in the world, I could get a 6bedroom mansion in Beverly Hills for example for what it would cost me to get a 1200sq/metres of land in banana island. FACT.
